Levi: Northern Lights Campfire

About This Experience
Safartica’s campfire evening is the simplest way to spend a night under the Lapland sky without driving anything. You meet at the Safartica office in Levi centre, or arrange a pickup within 10 km at least 48 hours ahead, and the group transfers by car or bus to an open spot with a clear view of the sky. The guide lights a fire and grills sausages, served with pastry and hot drinks, while you watch for auroras.
This is an experience-first tour. The appeal is the fire, the food and a couple of hours in the snow, and the Northern Lights are a possibility on top. Reviewers describe the fire in a kota tent or a laavu shelter, a walk down to a frozen river, a try on snowshoes, and guides who talk about Sámi customs and legends. Some saw the lights after a cloudy start; others saw none and still enjoyed the evening. One January group sat out −40 °C (−40 °F), so take the cold seriously.
Safartica’s weather rule is more flexible than most listings on this site. The listing says plainly that seeing the Northern Lights cannot be guaranteed, but it lets you reschedule to the next suitable day if you contact its front desk by 16:00 local time on the activity day, and otherwise says a full refund is given. One reviewer who fell ill was moved to the next night at short notice. Standard free cancellation up to 24 hours before also applies. Check the forecast the day before and on the day.
Plan for about two hours outdoors and a late finish: the first date shows an 8:30 PM start. The listing asks parents to think about whether small children can manage the time outside and the late hour, although one family with a six-year-old found the guides very inclusive. Winter clothing is supplied; wear thermal layers underneath. Special diets are catered for on request.
The first bookable date is 20 November 2026, from $103 per person (checked October 2026), rated 4.6 from 136 reviews. If you want a snowmobile ride with your campfire, compare Easy Travel’s safari (our review); for a passenger ride without driving, see the sledge ride (our review).

Good to Know & Caveats
- Experience-first: the fire, the food and the open sky are the evening, and auroras are a possibility. Several reviewers saw no lights because of cloud and still enjoyed the camp.
- Aurora rule in the listing's words: "seeing the Northern Lights cannot be guaranteed". You can reschedule to the next suitable day by contacting Safartica by 16:00 local time on the activity day; otherwise, the listing says, a full refund is given.
- First bookable date this season is 20 November 2026, from $103 per person on that date (checked October 2026).
- Expect about 2 hours outdoors in the cold. The 20 November slot was shown starting at 8:30 PM, so the return is late.
- Meet at the Safartica office in Levi centre 20 minutes before the start. Pickup within a 10 km radius is possible if you ask at least 48 hours ahead.
- Parents should judge whether small children can manage the outdoor time and the late finish; the listing raises both. One reviewer travelled with a six-year-old and found the guides inclusive.
- Free cancellation up to 24 hours before the start, on top of the same-day reschedule rule.

I would put 7 out of 5 if I could. This evening the chances for northern lights we auite small because of the cloudy weather. however, the campfire was great, we had a chat, we enjoyed the snacks and drinks and we even saw beautiful northern lights. Special thanks to our guide, he was amazing!

Frequently Asked Questions
What happens on the Northern Lights campfire tour?
You meet at the Safartica office in Levi, transfer by car or bus to an open spot with a clear view of the sky, and the guide builds a campfire. You eat grilled sausage and pastry with hot drinks and spend about two hours outdoors watching for auroras before the transfer back.
Can I reschedule if the forecast is bad?
Yes. Contact Safartica’s front desk by 16:00 local time on the activity day and the tour can be moved to the next suitable day; the listing says that otherwise a full refund is given. Free cancellation up to 24 hours before the start applies as well. Check the forecast the day before and on the day.
Is hotel pickup included?
The meeting point is the Safartica office in Levi centre, 20 minutes before the start. If you need a pickup, contact Safartica at least 48 hours in advance; it picks up within a 10 km radius of the office. If you are staying in the village, the office is usually the easiest meeting point.
Is the campfire tour suitable for children?
It can be, as there is no driving and the pace is easy, but the listing asks parents to consider the roughly two hours outdoors and the late timing (8:30 PM start on the first date). One reviewer travelled with a six-year-old and praised the guides. Dress children in warm layers under the supplied clothing.
Can Safartica cater for special diets?
Yes. The listing says special diet options are available on request for the grilled sausage, pastry and hot drinks. Tell Safartica when you book or contact them ahead of the evening, so the guide brings the right food to the fire.
Will I see the Northern Lights at the campfire?
Perhaps. The listing says seeing the Northern Lights cannot be guaranteed. The site is chosen for an open view of the sky, but cloud is the main obstacle, and FMI puts the chance at roughly half of dark, cloudless nights in the Levi area. The same-day reschedule rule helps on a poor forecast.
